This month, we spoke with our Audit Manager Tim Smith. Tim grew up in Warragul, before moving to Melbourne to pursue his professional career. Early this year Tim moved to Ballarat with his wife, who is originally from Ballarat, to join the PPT Audit Team.
What made you choose the accounting industry?
Originally I wanted to be a pilot, but I chose to keep my feet on the ground. When it comes to accounting and tax most people hate the idea of dealing with it, so I enjoy trying to help them out and reducing the ‘pain’ of it. I specialise in Audit, so I really enjoy getting out of the office and visiting all the various types of businesses we service.
What experience do you have in the industry?
I am a CPA and also a Registered Company Auditor. I have worked in Public Practice in an audit role for 10 years, working in city-based firms before moving to PPT.
Do you have any particular areas of interest ?
I have completed a lot of work in AFS Licensing and performed audits for the Victorian Auditor General, which relates to the audits of public bodies. I have audited large metropolitan councils, hospitals and many other types of organisations.
What keeps you busy away from work?
My wife and I recently purchased a block of land in Ballarat, so we have been busy planning our house we are going to build on it.
I also love my sport…watching the Hawks play, cricket in the summer, horse racing, and playing golf.
