Recently we caught up with Senior Manager and Accountant Kim Montgomery. Kim has worked in the accounting industry for many years and joined PPT in 2009, after the arrival of her first child. Kim tells us about the latest ATO compliance framework and life outside of work with her family and her community roles.
What is your role with PPT?
I assist individuals, family and business clients meet their accounting and tax needs including GST, payroll and software assistance.
What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
First and foremost the people – our clients and my colleagues! Having worked in the accounting industry for many years, I have developed a strong rapport with many clients. This rapport allows me to assist them in the best way possible and identify opportunities for them.
Secondly the diversity that each day brings and knowing at the end of each day you have been able to help someone out no matter how small the task.
What challenges/issues is the industry facing at the moment?
Currently, the new ATO compliance framework that is being phased in for employers with particular reference to single touch payroll (STP) and Superannuation Guarantee Charge (SGC). The added reporting requirements for employers has seen many of our clients need to transition to software that complies with the new reporting framework. These new requirements will make employers much more transparent with their employees and ensure that employee entitlements are reported and paid in a timely manner.
What keeps you busy outside of work?
My family – my husband Scott and our three boys Cooper, Darcy and Riley along with our fur children Tayla, Montana and Tilly.
I was also brought up with a strong focus on community involvement, which is why I am involved in Apex and also act as a committee member for Pax Hill Scout Camp. When time permits, our family also enjoys getting away for a weekend in our caravan.
What football team do you follow?
Essendon – I’d love to see them make the finals this year.
What Netflix show are you currently watching right now?
I have just finished watching the first season of Dead to Me, a dark comedy US starring Christina Applegate, which was great. Now I’m on to Lucifer, but have a bit of catching up to do!
