Team Profile: Cameron Moore

To kick off the year, we caught up with PPT Financial Director Cameron Moore to learn about his experience as a Financial Planner and what he gets up to away from work.

Where are you originally from?

I am Ballarat born and bred.

What made you choose the financial planning industry?

I was always interested in numbers at school, so when it came to choosing a career, financial planning seemed like the logical choice. I enjoy the challenges that financial markets present. I also take much pleasure in working with clients to achieve their goals, so for me it’s the ideal career!

What experience do you have in the industry?

I joined a local firm as a trainee financial planner and, during this time, completed the Diploma of Financial Planning and Certified Financial Planner ® program. I worked there for several years before joining PPT Financial in 2009 as a Representative. In 2012, I became a Director of PPT Financial.

Throughout my career I have gained experience across various aspects of financial planning.

Do you have any particular areas of interest/specialty?

I provide advice across a range of financial planning areas, but also specialise in self managed superannuation funds and direct share portfolio construction.

What are the major challenges facing clients at the moment?

I would say the low interest rate environment which has impacted many retirees coupled with the recent Government changes to the Age Pension. Both of these events have had a detrimental impact on some retiree incomes.

The other major challenge for investors is the continued high level of global uncertainty. Share markets however have responded positively to the recent US election results. Domestically, we would now like to see stronger company earnings to support the recent share market rise.

What keeps you busy away from work?

I enjoy spending time with my wife Rebecca and two daughters Milla and Emmerson. My interests outside of work include running, cycling, skiing and golf. I am also a committee member of the Financial Planning Association – Ballarat Chapter.
