Team Q&A: Sarah Odgers

This month, we catch up with Accountant Sarah Odgers. We chatted about her journey to PPT and her current role in the business and learned about her life in Ballarat, including her interest in aerial hoop classes and baking.

When did you become a part of our team and what drew you to PPT?

I started at PPT in 2016. I was looking for my next accounting role in a local Ballarat firm.

Can you share what you find most rewarding about your role here?

I enjoy the teaching aspect of my role the most. Most recently, I found it rewarding and a good learning experience for myself to assist in the training of a Graduate Accountant in our team.

I enjoy helping clients who are starting out in their first business, assisting with training, bookkeeping/use of accounting software, and helping them to understand their obligations with the ATO and other organisations. To help someone understand things that can be quite overwhelming feels worthwhile, for example, just employing someone involves payroll, WorkCover obligations, superannuation, Pay As You Go withholding, and much more.

What roles/organisations did you have/work in prior to joining PPT?

I enjoyed my job at the local IGA, eventually working in all the various departments at one point or another. I still see many faces that are familiar from my time there, I suppose that shows just how small of a place Ballarat can be.

Are there any local groups or sports clubs that you’re actively involved in?

I enjoy going to my weekly aerial hoop class at the Aerial Dance Studios Ballarat.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy when you’re not at the office?

I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, including our Jack Russell, Rusty. I spend my spare time reading, camping/bush walking/exploring our local area, and baking; I am always trying new recipes and occasionally making the odd milestone birthday cake!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you love to go?

Greece is on my to-travel-to list and maybe back to Europe one day. There is a lot of Australia that I have yet to see, but I can now claim to have travelled to every state.

If you could have dinner with any five people, alive or from history, who would they be?

Getting older, I think I would really appreciate being able to have dinner with all of my grandparents (that’s only four people – yes I realise that’s not five people, ironically I am an Accountant).

What are you currently watching, listening to or reading that you’re really into?

I enjoy listening to the podcast ‘Life Uncut’, usually to and from work in the car and, while I don’t really have a go-to genre for entertainment, I do like a good mystery and recently enjoyed the ‘Fool Me Once’ series on Netflix.
